UK. London Heathrow Airport is trialling a system which allows passengers to download recent movies on their iPhones or iPads to watch during their journey.
The ‘EntertainMe’ kiosks have been developed by SITA and offer a mixture of free and paid content. Two kiosks will be located at gate level in each of the airport’s Terminal 5 satellites as part of an initial trial this summer.
As well as recent Hollywood movies and classic titles, travellers can access local and international newspapers and magazines. Downloading takes approximately one minute, the airport said.
TV series, city guides, destination video tours and similar items will also be available and content will be regularly updated to include new releases.
Passengers select their content on an interactive screen and pay via ApplePay or with their contactless credit or debit card. Once a passenger has downloaded the content, they will be able to view it during their trip without having to access Wi-Fi or data services.
IT company SITA worked with Orange Business Services and Adaptive Channel to develop the kiosks.
Heathrow Head of Commercial Services Roberto Segala said: “We are constantly looking to enhance the travel experience for passengers at Heathrow and these new EntertainMe kiosks designed by SITA will provide a unique entertainment solution for our customers. We look forward to seeing our customers’ reaction to this innovative product.”
