Keflavik Airport issues tenders for foreign exchange and banking services

ICELAND. Isavia, the operator of Keflavik Airport, is seeking proposals for the operation of foreign exchange, ATM services and VAT refund services at Iceland”˜s major gateway.

Qualified companies require an operating licence granted by the Financial Supervisory Authority in Iceland to provide financial services or will be established and licensed in another member state of the European Economic Area.

Keflavik Airport has been developing a new concession programme, and last year appointed new retail and food & beverage partners

The RFP documents are now available. The closing date for proposals is 7 August. Isavia estimated that a negotiation period will start on 18 August and will continue until contracts have been signed. The contract will start six months after successful negotiations are concluded.

In a statement about the opportunity, Isavia said: “The profile of Keflavík Airport customers is changing. Icelandic travellers have historically been the main customers but with the fast-increasing number of tourists to Iceland, foreign travellers are now becoming the main customer group. Foreign travellers represented 71% of total passengers in 2014, growing to around 75% in 2020 according to projections.

“In addition to the changing passenger mix, Keflavik Airport has experienced large increase in passenger numbers for the last five years. In 2014, 3.86 million passengers passed through the airport, which is an increase of +20.5% on the previous year. It is estimated that the total number of passengers through Keflavik Airport will reach 5.2 million by 2020.”

As reported, Keflavik Airport has revitalised its concessions programme with new retail and food & beverage partners name last year. The airport company aims to deliver a commercial sales uplift of +60% through retail and F&B.
