Kanny Kim leaves Maldives Airports Company Duty Free

kanny-kim1-maleTHE MALDIVES. Maldives Airports Company Head of Duty Free Kanny Kim (pictured) has resigned, effective 14 October.

The much-respected Kim has played a key role over the past five years in the company’s ambitious US$2 million overhaul of the duty free offer at Ibrahim Nasir International Airport (Malé International Airport). In particular, he introduced several luxury boutiques and a number of leading watch brands as part of a drive to introduce a world-class retail offer.

Before assuming his current role he was Associate Vice President for GMR Male International Airport Private Limited, a post that followed an 18-year career with DFS Group.

Maldives Airports Company Duty Free recently opened a 46sq m gate shop offering 50 SKUs from leading general merchandise brands, as well as Swarovski and a small cosmetics offer. The opening continued the extensive retail development of recent years.

The company is developing a new passenger terminal building due for completion in mid-2020.

Chief Commercial Officer Norbert Onkelbach will take temporary charge of duty free operations until a replacement for Kim is named.
