Jura extends collection of rare and limited-edition single malt Scotch whiskies

Whyte & Mackay has extended the Jura collection of rare and limited releases with vintage expressions from 1988 and 1989.

The Scottish drinks company said the two aged whiskies showcase Jura’s rich whisky-making heritage and its dedication to creating the finest whiskies over generations.

Jura Rare Vintage 1989 is available now in Asian travel retail and through selected retailers globally, while the Rare Vintage 1988 – 2019 Bottling is exclusive to domestic markets in Asia. Both expressions are limited to 1,500 bottles each and have a £650 (US$842) RRP.

Whyte & Mackay introduces the latest additions to Jura’s rare and limited-edition single malts

As reported, Jura revealed the first of a new range of rare and limited releases with the Jura 28yo and Jura 1988 – 2018 Bottling last year. One year on, the spirits company said its latest expressions “celebrate the power of extended maturation”.

Jura Rare Vintage 1989 was matured for 30 years in American white oak ex-bourbon barrels to offer flavour notes which include honeyed pear, vanilla cake and spicy cinnamon. Bottled at 53.5% ABV, it is non-chill filtered, has complex aromas and an intense natural colour.

The 52.8% ABV 2019 bottling of the Rare Vintage 1988 was matured in American white oak ex-bourbon barrels, followed by five years in port pipes to deliver a balance of honey, baked apple, red fruits and toasted pistachios. The expression also has natural colour.

Whyte & Mackay said the latest releases “carry Jura’s signature house style” and build on the growing global popularity of its whiskies since its relaunch last year.

Whyte & Mackay Whisky Maker and Blender Gregg Glass commented: “Jura has been in a unique position to create a history of single malts like no other. These releases are no exception, and are a reflection of the dedication of our community over generations to produce the finest whiskies.

“Our rare and limited releases pay homage to the people and breath-taking landscape of Jura over the years, and offer our growing, global community a truly unique flavour of our island home.”
