Jersey Airport issues RFP for duty free, food & beverage, speciality and convenience retail

UK (JERSEY).  Ports of Jersey, owner and operator of Jersey Airport (pictured below), has issued a Request for Proposals (RFP) for all of its food & beverage, duty free, speciality and convenience retail concessions in the main departure and arrivals terminals.

The term of the contract is ten years, commencing on either 1 March 2017 or 1 October 2017 (the majority of contracts are due to commence from 1 March with the exception of two speciality retail areas). The current duty free retailer is Dufry-owned World Duty Free Group.

A copy of the RFP and related documents can be found on the Channels Islands Tender website at www.channelislandtenders.com. A pre-RFP minimum qualifications process is required with briefings and site tours yet to be announced.

Ports of Jersey said it will consider “well thought out proposals in the concession area, which complement the customer journey and drives sales through competitively priced, and high quality goods and excellent service; maximising sustainable commercial return to Ports of Jersey and its business partners”.

Proposers will need to meet certain minimum qualifications in order to be considered for the concession opportunities, Ports of Jersey said. These include prior operating experience and certain financial conditions. For the duty free contracts, operators must have at least five years of continuous experience in the last seven years owning and/or operating duty free retail with gross sales above £50 million annually.

Food & beverage requires at least three years of continuous experience in the last five years owning and/or operating a food & beverage facility with gross sales above £5 million annually.

The requirement for speciality retail is at least three years of continuous experience in the last five years owning and/or operating a retail/service store with gross sales above £500,000 annually.

Convenience retail requires at least three years of continuous experience in the last five years owning and/or operating a similar convenience retail store with gross sales above £2 million annually.

The deadline for bid submission is 12pm on Monday 3 October 2016. The estimated date of awarding the contracts is 4 November 2016.

Ports of Jersey has commissioned a concept design document to help stimulate ideas and discussions around possible opportunities (if the investment cases can be made). One example is a retail concession unit made up of local retailers that would promote the island and contribute to a “central market feel”
