InnoTRI strikes supply deal with Penha for Curaçao International Airport duty free contract

CURAÇAO. Miami-based InnoTRI Limited (Innovation Travel Retail International) will supply the key categories of liquor, tobacco and confectionery to Curaçao Hato International Airport’s new duty free retailer Penha.

As reported earlier this week, Curaçao Airport Partners (CAP) awarded a five-year contract to family-owned travel retailer Penha.

Penha and InnoTRI Limited established a partnership in 2017 and submitted a proposal jointly for the duty free bid, covering concept development, presentation and execution.

Dufry, which has managed the concession since 2004, will continue to run the stores until 30 June, with the new contract starting in July.

InnoTRI and Penha jointly submitted the concept design for the new duty free stores

InnoTRI was founded by Steffen Brandt and Christoph Henkel in December 2016. The company aims to bring innovative concepts, brands and business models to travel retail. Headquartered in Miami, Florida, its initial focus is North, Central and South America, including the Caribbean.

Penha will run the airport stores, leveraging its retail expertise as a beauty retail specialist across five Caribbean islands. InnoTRI, which helped create the new walk-through concept, will supply wines & spirits, tobacco and confectionery, as noted above. InnoTRI will also supply Penha’s other stores in the Caribbean through its distribution centre in Miami.

A tasting bar at the centre of the departures store will feature sampling events for wine, liquor and chocolate

“Both companies are very excited and honoured to have received the award. The concept is a unique approach for the region and the airport,” said an InnoTRI statement.

The concept combines regional and local designs in homage to Curaçao’s colourful heritage. The island’s capital Willemstad was named a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1997. The airport welcomes around 1.7 million passengers each year. The government is targeting growth to 2.2 million by 2020.

The renovated stores will take inspiration from the colours and shapes of the island’s scenery

The departures duty free will be expanded and renovated as a walk-through concept of around 1,035sq m. A 233sq m store will be established in the arrivals hall.
