Image of the day: Rise of the robots at Chennai International

Our daily feature celebrates memorable scenes, moments, launches and campaigns from the global aviation and travel retail sphere.

They are colourful, friendly and most certainly useful. Chennai International Airport has introduced humanoid robots on a trial basis to perform tasks such as greeting passengers and providing information on amenities.

The autonomous robots are able to navigate on their own, can identify passengers and respond to queries, and are even able to distinguish between different accents, according to Airports Authority of India.

Two robots have been introduced – one each in Arrivals and Departures in the Domestic Terminal.

As these images show, the robotic pair have already been well received.
