HMSHost wins five-year, US$63 million extension at Norfolk International

USA. HMSHost will open three restaurants at Norfolk International Airport after being awarded a five-year, US$63 million contract extension by Norfolk Airport Authority.

The restaurateur’s existing lease started in 1999 and the expiration date is now June 2026. The total future value of the contract is estimated to be worth US$113 million.

HMSHost will open gastropub The Local @ ORF, which will incorporate products by local farmers and breweries. Several market-like stations such as a carvery and salad station will be offered at the new ORF MKT. HMSHost said it would use “fresh, natural, local, farm-grown sustainable” products whenever possible.

The restaurateur has also partnered with AB InBev to create restaurant Here’s To Heroes, which honours all branches of the US military and those serving. The menu is said to feature bar favourites and a variety of healthy options.

HMSHost will also continue to operate seven existing outlets: Back Bay Bistro, James River Grille, Great American Bagel, Burger King, and the airport’s three Starbucks.

Regional focus: HMSHost's The Local concept already operates in a number of North American airports, including this one at Manchester-Boston
