Furla SS17 collection goes on a journey to distant lands

Furla will present its spring/summer 2017 collection, featuring backpacks and cross bodies, at next month’s TFWA World Exhibition (Bay Village 2).

The collection, which aims to bring to life memories of journeys made, includes functional bags made from soft, light materials. Bags feature embroidery, lace, tassel and fringe details.

New leathers and materials see Gomma PVC combined with vit. Oasis calfskin; inflatable bags in metallic and bright colours; and strong fabrics inspired by weaving and rope techniques.

Throughout the season the palette develops from soft ‘romantic’ shades to hot summer colours. Neutrals such as petalo, acero, moonstone, cappuccino and sabbia contrast with pesci, ruby, blu ginepri and malachite. Stronger colours such as mango, senape, torches and navy are introduced later on in the season while by mid-summer desert sand colours combine with sun golds and night silvers. Prints include soft lace, denim, animal, graphic designs and weave fabrics.

Tribal instinct: the Metropolis Mask is described as a “colourful reinterpretation of Metropolis”

The Metropolis Girandola offers the body of the bag in various colours with a choice of seven separate flaps, each inspired by a different country. Customers can choose from Batik embroidery on Nappa, Dragon embroidery on Suede and Rodeo embroidery on Nappa.

A new design, Metropolis Mask, has been added to Furla’s top selling Metropolis style. Metropolis Mask, the result of a collaboration with graphic fashion illustrator Domenico Principato, includes three prints mixing tribal elements with shaman masks.

Lucky, a new tote style in vit. Fleu soft leather, comes in strong, colour block and graphic designs decorated with stud details.

Totes also feature in Vittoria, along with new drawstring shapes that give the style a more contemporary look. The totes feature lightweight unlined construction and come with a detachable internal pouch. The Vittoria Glam, offered in solid colours or colour block variations, features a woven panel inspired by tribal elements.

The SS17 range also features the new travel retail-exclusive Erica bag. The small handbag is offered in three colourways, each with an external pouch in contrasting colour: acero and ruby; ruby and sabbia; blue ginepro and acero. The style has two compartments plus one secured with a zip.

‘Small, sophisticated and functional’: the travel-exclusive Erica bag

Unisex business pieces, including casual and IT bags, are available in smooth or grained soft leathers, ostrich prints, and waterproof fabrics. Colour options are onyx, navy, dolomite, agave, peperoncino and militare.

The collection is completed by a full range of small leathergoods, textiles and a wider range of men’s belts. Furla said the belts, which are reversible and fully adjustable with a choice of buckle designs, materials and colours, are expected to be one of the biggest growth sectors in travel retail.

Furla Global Travel Retail Director Gerry Munday said: “I never fail to be surprised and delighted by each new Furla collection. Once again the design team have surpassed themselves with a collection that is truly inspiring, innovative and irresistible. I’m particularly pleased with this season’s travel exclusive, Erica, which is a gorgeous bag for any woman to own. The success of our previous exclusives is proof that consumers are really keen to discover lines that are not available on the high street.”

Munday added that interest in the Furla men’s offer is growing steadily. “I think the new belt range will sell extremely well in travel retail and the variety of business and casual bags is improving all the time.”
