Film focus: Now showing on The Moodie Davitt Report Brandwatch & Storewatch

INTERNATIONAL. In the latest edition of our new Storewatch and Brandwatch video series, we take a look at some of travel retail’s most exciting retail openings and brand developments.

In Storewatch we examine four diverse new travel retail stores that have recently opened around the globe.

First we journey to Singapore as Lagardère Travel Retail unveils its next generation Fashion Gallery concept at Changi Airport.

As reported, the multibrand concept spans over 500sq m in the T2 Departures/Transit Hall and features over 30 brands across ready-to-wear, accessories, shoes, bags, jewellery and sunglasses. Innovations include a dynamic digital façade that allows the store front to change and move with the flow of passengers, as well as a customisable themed event area.

Another breakthrough was achieved in Norway as Travel Retail Norway opened the world’s biggest Arrivals duty free shop at Oslo Airport.

The new store, which trades under the Heinemann Duty Free banner, will comprise a vast 4,000sq m when completed. Many new concepts have been introduced, including ‘Gifting’; ‘Eyes, Lips, Nails’; and ‘Men’s World’, as well as 700 new items and many additional Norwegian products.

In New York, independent duty free retailer International Shoppes completed an ambitious upgrade and expansion of its stores at JFK Terminal 8, which is home to American Airlines and partners.

The 5,500sq ft main duty free shop post-security has been remodelled to include a dramatic, 15ft-wide LED display at the storefront, while a series of beauty boutiques form a key attraction at the shop’s entrance.

Following the conclusion of the Rio Olympic Games, Duty Free Americas went for a gold of its own in Brazil with a first-class opening at São Paulo-Congonhas Airport.

The 9,500sq ft travel retail store is one of 18 currently open or under construction in Brazil by the company. It is just the start of a wider expansion programme – Duty Free Americas said it wanted to grow its business “throughout Latin America and beyond”.

The fifth edition of our Brandwatch series spotlights an interesting selection of sprits, travel retail exclusives, a fragrance and male grooming products.

We start in England, with English spirits company The Lakes Distillery. The company, based in the beautiful Lake District, has developed a travel retail exclusive range of gin, vodka and whisky.

Next, our attention turns to male grooming. Male beard grooming to be exact. Company Mo Bro’s, handled by Scorpio Distributors for airline retail, says it has the answer to beard problems such as irritation with its innovative product range, including beard oil and balm.

It’s not just about looking the part, it’s about smelling good, too. The third featured brand comes from Spanish fragrance house Puig. A new fragrance duo, Les Belles de Nina, comprises two complementing scents which are inspired by two friends who cannot survive without one another.

Completing this week’s Brandwatch is a new Naked Grouse special edition. The release, limited to 4,000 bottles, has been exclusively created for cruise and ferry company Viking Line.
