TAIWAN. Ever Rich Duty Free Shop has donated NT$3 million (US$95,000) to aid the reconstruction of Green Island, which was ravaged along with much of eastern Taiwan by Typhoon Nepartak earlier this month.
The typhoon caused terrible damage in Taitung County, injuring hundreds of people injured and displacing many.
Green Island is a volcanic island in the Pacific Ocean about 33 km off the eastern coast of Taiwan. It was particularly badly hit by the storm damage, and by a resultant shortage of food and other products.
Ever Rich’s offshore duty free shop on the island, which opened in 2013, was badly damaged and many products ruined. However, all staff are safe and quickly formed a volunteer team to help the community clear up the damage.
Ever Rich Duty Free Shop pledged its donation to help rebuild damaged infrastructure. It also helped ship daily supplies once traffic to the island had resumed. Ever Rich sent engineering and construction teams and manufacturers to not only fix the company’s shop but also to assist local residents, institutions and shops to recover.
The company commented: “The purpose of the effort is to help local residents move on with life as quickly as possible. The Ever Rich shop on Green Island has received significant support from locals, and it was an opportune time to give back.”
Footnote: Ever Rich has a deep commitment to Corporate Social Responsibility, time and again contributing to national and international causes, helping the underprivileged and dispossessed, and supporting all aspects of Taiwanese social, cultural and artistic life. That commitment was portrayed vividly in a special publication produced by The Moodie Davitt Report in 2013, called ‘Ever Rich at 18’, which marked the retailer’s 18th anniversary.
