Edrington named The Glenrothes’ duty free agent – 02/10/08

Travel retail exclusive: The Glenrothes Robur Reserve will be launched at the TFWA World Exhibition later this month

UK. BB&R Spirits has announced that The Glenrothes will be represented by The Edrington Group’s distribution network in global travel retail from mid-October 2008.

The change in distribution coincides with this month’s launch at the TFWA World Exhibition of The Glenrothes Robur Reserve, an addition to its award-winning Scotch whisky range developed exclusively for travel retail.

All travel retail territories globally are covered by the agreement except Greece, India, UAE, Korea, Turkey, South America, the Caribbean, US Forces/AAFES and Canada.

“Global travel retail provides a very exciting opportunity for the world’s fastest-growing single malt,” said BB&R Spirits Commercial Director Peter Davie. “However, to make the most of it, The Glenrothes needs a dedicated and professional team to manage it. I am confident that The Edrington Group is the right partner for us.”

The Edrington Group Travel Retail Manager Keith Bonnington commented: “As with the rest of our portfolio of core international brands, distribution of The Glenrothes will be handled by Maxxium Global Travel Retail. The Glenrothes is already highly sought after in global travel retail as shown by its strong growth. We have in place a team of professionals with a great track record of growing distribution and sales for our premium malts. They will build on this demand and make the most of the opportunity for The Glenrothes – especially in view of the launch of the duty free exclusive Robur Reserve.”

About The Glenrothes

The Glenrothes was founded in 1879 and is one of only three Speyside malts to hold “Top Class” status. Little more than 2% of the distillery capacity is bottled as single malt to ensure exceptional quality, and of the 16 vintages released to date, 12 have sold out. The Glenrothes Select Reserve was voted Best in Class at the World Whiskies Awards 2008 and won two Double Golds at The San Francisco World Spirits Competition 2007, while The Glenrothes 1972 was awarded a trophy at the 2005 International Spirits Challenge.

The Glenrothes is the fastest-growing single malt Scotch whisky, according to the International Wine & Spirit Record. Research shows that from 2002 to 2006, taking into account compound annual growth over that period, The Glenrothes out-grew the competition with an annual rate of over +17%.
