Dufry launches revamped main walk-through store at EuroAirport

SWITZERLAND. Dufry has inaugurated its main walk-through store at the bi-national EuroAirport Basel-Mulhouse-Freiburg.

The refurbished store is located in the centre of the boarding area after security. The retail area has been enlarged by 200sq m to 1,032sq m.

Dufry said much of the new store concept was based on specific passenger feedback, while a strong Sense of Place has also been instilled. Strong personalisations are also a key element.

A number of new brands have been added across all key categories. These include La Prairie, Tom Ford and Nuxe in the beauty area and Alexander McQueen, Miu Miu and Wenger in luxury.

The retailer has also put a strong focus on brightening the store, and its modern design is said to offer clearer visibility.

If you’re going to criticise when things go badly, you also need to praise when they go well. And boy, have things started to go well. The transformation over the past year is startling.

Sense of Place is reflected in a number of design details that take inspiration from the traditions and architecture of Basel and the surrounding area. Features include geometric shapes, walkways and store furniture, Dufry said.

New technologies such as a video wall and audio sound system are also intended to enhance the passenger experience, and particularly communication.

The refurbishment programme started in November 2015 and took five months to complete. It did not involve closing the shop.

Dufry Group Chief Executive Officer Julian Diaz said: “I would like to underline the excellent collaboration with the airport management and the teams involved to make this important improvement possible without affecting the service to the travellers at the airport.

“The shop features some of our new design elements aimed at conveying a strong Sense of Place for the passengers and enhance the in-store communication with customers.”

EuroAirport Director Matthias Suhr commented: “We are constantly striving to improve passenger comfort and service quality. The new concept and design of the Dufry main shop is an excellent example of how we are achieving this goal. We greatly appreciate our partnership with Dufry.”

Dufry currently operates seven shops at EuroAirport Basel-Mulhouse-Freiburg covering a total retail space of over 1,900m².
