PERU. Dufry this week inaugurated its newly refurbished Lima Duty Free stores at Jorge Chávez International Airport. The retailer’s offer features three stores (including a main walk-through shop) that occupy 3,025sq m of space, double the previous size.

The main walk through Lima Duty Free store guides passengers into a curved space said to feature “a complex mix of reflections and images, representing the dynamic and changing character of the city of Lima”.

The ceiling and floor create a flow through the store, said the retailer, giving a feeling of a large commercial space.

The Lima Duty Free stores offer the traditional travel retail categories, as well as watches, leathergoods, sunglasses and other items.

Additionally, passengers will find an area called Thinking Peru, the design of which is based on elements and materials linked to Peruvian culture. This creates a Sense of Place and local identity, said Dufry. A colourful lattice across the ceiling aims to evoke the traditional Peruvian fabric that greets tourists who visit Peru. Destination gifts include Pisco La Blanco Gallos, chocolate produced from Peruvian cacao, turrones and alfajores.

The store development at Jorge Chávez International was carried out in close collaboration with Lima Airport Partners, with which Dufry (and previously World Duty Free) has partnered since 2001.

The official opening of Lima Duty Free was led by Dufry CEO of the Latin America Division René Riedi, Lima Airport Partners CEO Juan José Salmón and LAP Chief Operations and Commercial Officer Sabine Trenk.

Riedi said: “For us the renovation and expansion of our new Lima Duty Free commercial space is a clear commitment to long-term investment in one of the major airports in which we operate in Latin America. With these new stores, we have completely renewed and updated our offer at Jorge Chávez International Airport.

“We seek to bring together a wide range of designs from the most exclusive brands, without losing local essence and flavour. In addition, the expansion of the commercial space allows us to offer our customers a much more exciting in store experience, which includes brands that wouldn’t normally be found on the high street.”

Riedi continued: “We thank LAP for the trust they have placed in Dufry, and we are proud of what we have achieved in collaboration with this important partner. We look forward to passengers enjoying the new commercial offer, and to continuing to work closely with this airport for many years to come.”
