UAE. Passenger traffic at Dubai International surged +14% in July to 7.6 million. It is the highest number of passengers ever handled by the airport in the month.
During the first seven months of 2016, passenger traffic rose +7% to 48.1 million.
The fastest-growing region in July traffic terms was Eastern Europe, up +33.4%. Asia was next at +20.8%, followed by the Indian subcontinent at +17.1%. GCC traffic rose +16.2% while North America registered a +13.9% increase.
India, traditionally a strong market, was the top destination country with 990,213 passengers. It was followed by the UK, with 573,025 and Saudi Arabia, with 475,841. London, Doha, Mumbai, Kuwait and Bangkok headed the list of the most popular destinations served.
“This summer was the busiest in Dubai International’s history with daily traffic averaging a quarter of a million passengers across the three terminals,” commented Dubai Airports CEO Paul Griffiths. “We are pleased as much with the growth as we are with the way we managed service levels by implementing detailed operational plans, boosting staff levels, intensifying communication efforts with our business partners and customers during the peak period.”
The airport is expecting an increase in passengers in September during the Islamic festival of Eid Al Adha and annual pilgrimage of Hajj.
A Hangout@DXB campaign will encourage travellers to arrive early at the airport by featuring activities and offering gifts and prizes.
