Dubai International passenger numbers post solid climb in first half

UAE. Passenger traffic at Dubai International dipped slightly in June due to the timing of Ramadan but climbed by +5.8% year-on-year in the six months to the end of June.

June traffic volumes hit 5.8 million while first-half numbers were 40.5 million, Dubai Airports reported.

Dubai Airports CEO Paul Griffiths said: “We’ve had a record first half and the second half is underway with what could be a banner month thanks to the start of the holiday season in July and the week-long break for the Islamic festival of Eid Al Fitr.”

"The record passenger numbers in January confirm that the growth trend from last year has continued into 2016 and we are on course to meet our projection of 85 million passengers... this year" Paul Griffiths, CEO, Dubai Airports

He added: “In July we have seen high volumes, particularly in connecting traffic as vacationers increasingly choose Dubai as an international hub, as well as being a popular destination itself.”

Leading country destinations in the half were India, Saudi Arabia, UK, Pakistan and the USA.
