IRELAND/UAE. Representatives of Dubai Duty Free recently visited the Teeling Whiskey Distillery in Dublin.
The team, headed by Dubai Duty Free Executive Vice Chairman & CEO Colm McLoughlin, toured the facility, located in The Liberties of Dublin, during last month’s Dubai Duty Free Irish Derby weekend.
The Teeling Whiskey Distillery, opened in June 2015, is the first fully operational distillery in Dublin since 1974. It marks a return to a traditional industry which once boasted 37 distilleries located in what was known as the ‘Golden Mile’ area of Dublin.
The new facility, owned and run by brothers Jack and Stephen Teeling, is located close to the family’s first distillery established by Walter Teeling in 1782.
McLoughlin commented: “When we visit Ireland for the Dubai Duty Free Irish Derby, we like to take some time out from our busy schedule to visit a venue that is either related to our business or to the horse racing world.
“In recent years we have visited Kildangan and Coolmore, the famous stud farms, as well as visiting Diageo’s Guinness Storehouse, all of which were fantastic.
“We know the Teeling family well and visited their Kilbeggan distillery some years ago, which is now owned by Jim Beam. We were interested to see the new Dublin facility started by the younger generation of Jack and Stephen and I’m glad we did, it is very impressive and worth a visit.”
Teeling Whiskey Company Sales and Marketing Director Stephen Teeling conducted the tour of the distillery which ended in a tasting of the top three selling products. McLoughlin was invited to pour his own bottle of Teeling Whiskey.
“We have a long-term family relationship with Dubai Duty Free dating back generations so it was amazing to be able to showcase our new distillery to Colm and the team right in the heart of Dublin city,” Teeling said.
“Dubai Duty Free are the world’s leading duty free operator and we are extremely excited to partner with them to drive the premium segment of the Irish whiskey category forward long into the future,” he added.
