The bottle, affectionately named “Jabulani” (Zulu for “rejoice”), inherits its name from a South African elephant that was abandoned as a baby but later rescued and adopted into a new herd. The bottle, with the shape of an African elephant etched into the glass, will be available in travel retail in several sizes including 50ml, 200ml, 375ml, 500ml PET, 750ml and 1L.
Amarula Global General Manager Dino D’Araujo said: “The bottle reflects our ongoing commitment to elephant conservation. Since 2002, the Amarula Trust has helped conservationists study elephant behaviour and use the learnings to protect elephants within South Africa’s borders.”
D’Araujo said funding generated from the proceeds of Amarula sales will help Distell continue to protect the continent’s elephants, which are an important part of both Africa’s heritage and Amarula’s story.
In Cannes Distell Global Travel Retail will also showcase a selection of limited-release malt whiskies.
A 40yo Deanston (RRP £850), limited to 480 bottles, offers notes of honey and fruit from its maturation in Oloroso casks.
The unpeated Tobermory 21yo (1995) Manzanilla Finish, a dry and slightly oily malt with hints of citrus, dried fruits and spice, has a RRP of £310. The 19yo Ledaig Marsala Finish, priced at £125, offers notes of citrus fruit, berries and grapes with hints of toffee and dark chocolate and a finish of black pepper and “bonfire” smoke.
All of the limited-release malts will be available from the beginning of November.
Bain’s Cape Mountain Whisky will also be featured on the Distell stand.
Bain’s Cape Mountain Whisky Master Distiller Andy Watts commented: “Bain’s is such an incredible success story for South African whisky. We set out when launching this whisky in 2009 to truly showcase the essence of South African whisky, to set a benchmark for single grain in the world and to highlight the strides that we have taken in our short history of making whisky in this country.”

The whisky is described as smooth, with a combination of floral, banana, honey, toasted hazelnuts and toffee aromas, revealing wood, vanilla and spice.
Distell will also show its extended range of South African wines. Along with its well-known Nederburg, Distell will feature a selection from J.C. Le Roux, including J.C. Le Roux La Vallée, La Vallée Rosé, Brut and the vintage prestige cuvée, Scintilla.
Wines from Durbanville Hills, Plaisir de Merle and Pongracz will also be highlighted.
