Denver International transforms into a beer garden for Oktoberfest

USA. Denver International Airport is to host a beer garden event in which travellers can pay to taste a number of craft beers.

The third annual ‘Beer Flights’ event will run between 30 September and 10 October, and coincides with worldwide Oktoberfest celebrations and the Great American Beer Festival in Denver.

Beer Flights will take place on the airport’s outside plaza on Level 5 between the Jeppesen Terminal and Westin Denver International Airport. Tickets are available at the door and cost US$10. Admission includes a souvenir glass to taste 10 samples of beer. Visitors must be 21 or older with a valid ID to enter.

Ready for take off: Beer Flights features live music and entertainment as well as beer tasting

The airport is organising the event in partnership with the Colorado Brewers Guild. Colorado is home to nearly 230 established breweries – more than 10% of the nation’s craft breweries can be found in the state. The airport said 10 local breweries would be represented at the event and each will have two different beers to sample.

“Beer Flights allows us to showcase Colorado’s outstanding microbrew industry but also recognises our close friendship with our sister airport in Munich, the home of Oktoberfest,” said Denver International Airport CEO Kim Day. “We invite beer lovers – whether travellers or neighbours – to stop by our outdoor plaza and sample some of the best beer available this side of Bavaria.”

The airport will also host live musical performances and the event features talks by brew masters, brew trivia, giveaways and table games. Souvenir pint glasses only available at the beer garden will be available to purchase.
