Celebrating craftsmanship: DFS launches craft beer and spirits festival at Changi

SINGAPORE. DFS is giving travellers at Singapore Changi Airport an extended chance to sample craft beers and spirits from around the world.

The travel retailer is hosting a six-week craft festival from today (21 September) across terminals 1, 2, 3 and 4. Tastings are available for over 70 craft gin, whisky and beer brands, and passengers can meet with specialist craft distillers from around the globe.

The perfect tonic: A wide selection of craft gins is available for tasting throughout the festival.

The festival aims to highlight the influence of distillers and their varied approaches to craft, DFS said.

Through combining entertainment with education, travellers are being invited to discover their ‘drink personalities’ through tastings, brand engagements and hands-on cocktail mixing.

The emergence of craft spirits, a fast-growing segment of the drinks category, was explored in a special report in the latest edition of The Moodie Davitt e-Zine (see image below).

“At DFS, we believe in providing our customers with new and engaging retail experiences,” said DFS Group Managing Director Singapore and Indonesia Wilcy Wong. “The craft festival provides us with a platform to showcase our impressive collection of small-batch spirits and introduce our customers to unique and exclusive products, some of which can only be found at DFS.”

Different spirits brands and their ambassadors will feature on each weekend of the festival. These include Whitley Neill, Oxley Gin, Botanist, Copper Dog and Tanqueray gin. Guests will be invited to enjoy complimentary tastings and learn from the ambassadors.

DFS says it is the first retailer in Singapore to stock the newly-launched Tanglin Gin. The first made-in-Singapore gin, it is infused with the essence of orchid, Singapore’s national flower. DFS is also showcasing a collection of craft beers including Singapore’s Archipelago and Freemantle’s Little Creatures.

Archipelago and Little Creatures are among the brands that will appeal to beer lovers, DFS said.

DFS Group Senior Vice President Spirits, Wines, Tobacco, Food and Gifts Brooke Supernaw said: “Today’s drinkers are looking for fresh brands that have a unique identity and heritage. Following a resurgence of the cocktail culture, consumers want to enjoy innovative and hard-to-find products, and DFS is proud to maintain its market-leading position by offering interesting brands with a strong story that reflects true craftsmanship.”

Whisky enthusiasts will have a feast of tasting options throughout the event, including craft whisky brands such as Copper Dog.

DFS said the festival has a carnival theme with entertainment, interactive games and prize competitions, including a chance to win the latest iPhone XS in each of the retailer’s stores.

All products featured at the craft festival are also available on iShopChangi.com. Items can be collected at the departure terminals, arrivals halls or be delivered to locations within Singapore. Online purchasers are entered into a draw to win the grand prize of a ‘bespoke party’ in Singapore worth S$5,000 (US$3,667).
