AUSTRALIA. Brisbane Airport is to create a zone for Uber cars to pick up and drop off passengers.
It will become the third airport in the country to establish a dedicated zone for the ride-hailing service, following Canberra and Sydney.
Uber drivers will pay an A$3 (US$2.28) fee at the airport, compared to the A$3.60 (US$2.73) paid by taxi drivers, as their zone is not as close to the Domestic and International terminals.
Ridesharing services, including Uber’s, became legal in Queensland today (5 September), prompting taxi drivers to hold a silent protest outside state parliament.
The ridesharing cars must display signage by 1 November and are banned from using taxi ranks and from being hailed.
