Bahrain Airport Company launches new terminal advertising tender

Bahrain International Airport: Set to embark on a major investment programme, headlined by its planned new terminal

BAHRAIN. Bahrain Airport Company (BAC) is inviting potential partners to bid for the advertising concession at the new passenger terminal at Bahrain International Airport, through The Moodie Davitt Report. The move is the first in a series of tenders for the commercial programme at the new facility, which should be completed by 2019.

Bahrain Airport Company said it is inviting bids “from suitably qualified and experienced owners and operators of leading advertising companies, both regional and international, to design, invest and manage the advertising concession for the new terminal at Bahrain International Airport”.

Advertising companies with a current airport contract at airports with at least (or greater than) 8.5 million passengers are eligible to participate.

The concession offers a ten-year contract and will require investment in infrastructure and design at the new airport passenger terminal building and management of the new advertising assets.

Bahrain Airport Company Chief Commercial Officer Mohamed Khalil said: “The launch of our commercial tender programme is another significant milestone in our US$1.1 billion transformation. Increasing the size of our retail space and bringing in new fashion and catering concepts is central to our plans to give passengers the best possible experience in becoming a great airport.

“Travel retail is one of the most attractive categories for brands. It offers not only an incredible opportunity for building brand recognition but also provides a great platform for consumer trial. We’re very excited by the level of interest in the tender programme so far. The world of travel retail is changing and so too are the expectations of our passengers. We now serve over 39 destinations, giving us and our partners access and exposure to a truly global traveller. We would be delighted to hear from any interested parties.”

He added: “The airport, which handled in excess of 8.5 million passengers in 2015, is expanding to meet burgeoning passenger demand, and when the development of its terminal is complete will see capacity grow from 8.5 million to 14 million travellers annually. Our most important objective is to really work on experience for our passengers, so that they make the positive decision to choose Bahrain International Airport when they fly. More and more as our public travel so their expectations grow higher, both in retail and catering, and we’re confident that we’re going to deliver a real ‘wow’ experience from when they enter the terminal.”

The new passenger terminal building will be housed in space of more than 207,000sq m.

The Airport Modernization Program is a vital strategic project for the Kingdom of Bahrain, noted BAC, because the airport serves all economic sectors and is a gateway for Bahrain to the rest of the world.

BAC is the authority responsible for enhancing BIA and increasing the airport’s contribution to the local economy in line with Bahrain’s Economic Vision. BAC is responsible for elevating the airport’s operations, infrastructure and service levels.

The advertising contract at the airport will run for ten years and is the first in a series of commercial concessions to be tendered for the new terminal
