Bacardi marks new Virgin Edinburgh route with limited edition Dewar’s

UK. Bacardi Global Travel Retail has marked the launch of Virgin Atlantic’s new “˜Little Red’ service to Edinburgh by releasing a limited edition blend of Dewar’s blended Scotch whisky.

Only 200 bottles of the exclusive Dewar’s House 17 Years Old have been released, with one bottle presented to each passenger onboard the inaugural flight from London Heathrow this morning.

The Moodie Report was on board the flight, during which passengers were offered Little Red Rob Roy cocktails – Dewar’s White Label, Martini Rosso vermouth and a dash of orange bitters – to toast the occasion.

Welcoming passengers on board the flight, Virgin Atlantic Founder and President Sir Richard Branson said: “Virgin Atlantic has enjoyed a long and successful partnership with Bacardi so I can’t think of a better way to celebrate the inaugural Little Red service to Edinburgh than with a Scotch whisky created by Dewar’s especially for the occasion.”

The launch of the service will be celebrated further tonight with a party for 400 people taking place at The Caves in Edinburgh, where Dewar’s cocktails – the Dewar’s New York Sour, Little Red Rob Roy and High Flying Highball – will be served.

Bacardi Global Travel Retail Senior Global Brand Manager for Whisky Richard Cuthbert said: “As soon as we heard that Virgin was launching an Edinburgh service we wanted to do something particularly special to mark the occasion and as Scotland’s most awarded whisky it’s wonderful that Dewar’s is at the centre of the airline’s celebrations.”

The limited edition bottle has been crafted using the Dewar’s double-ageing process. Used across the Dewar’s portfolio, the process involves returning the hand-crafted blend to vintage oak casks for further maturation.

The individually numbered limited-edition bottles bear the details of Virgin Atlantic’s first flight to Edinburgh

Each of the 50cl bottles have been signed by Dewar’s Master Blender Stephanie Macleod and are individually numbered. The labels and gift packs have been specially designed to resemble a baggage label featuring the details of the inaugural flight.

Among the highlights of the partnership between Bacardi Global Travel Retail and Virgin Atlantic in recent years has been the opening of the Grey Goose Loft bar in 2011, in the Virgin Atlantic Clubhouse at London Heathrow.

As part of the ongoing partnership, premium spirits from the Bacardi portfolio will be served on all Virgin Atlantic Little Red services between London Heathrow and Manchester, Edinburgh and Aberdeen.
