Airport Authority Hong Kong announces SkyCity, “a new destination”

HONG KONG. Airport Authority Hong Kong (AAHK) has announced plans to build a vast retail-to-leisure facility called SkyCity.

SkyCity will feature retail and entertainment facilities, dining space, hotels and office towers in approximately 25 hectares of land north of Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA).

Making a statement: The new Coach campaign captures the attention across the airport's Arrivals spaces
Vast selection: New options soon available to HKIA’s travellers

The SkyCity plan was announced at ‘The Future of Shopping Malls’ business conference and exhibition hosted today by AAHK, where international speakers discussed the latest airport city developments in major aviation hubs and the potential for HKIA.

Phase 1 of the project will comprise a hotel providing 450 to 750 rooms, which is expected to be completed in 2020; and a retail, dining and entertainment (RDE) destination of 195,000sq m, scheduled to open in 2021.

Invitations for tender submissions for the hotel and RDE developments will be issued in November 2016 and early 2017 respectively.

AAHK’s Chairman Jack So Chak-kwong said: “Our vision is to create a new destination that goes far beyond the traditional notion of a shopping mall. SkyCity aims to capture broad opportunities in tourism and business, while also providing a dynamic lifestyle and family entertainment hub for Hong Kong residents and visitors alike.”
