Air France-KLM posts -8.1% passenger fall in May – 09/06/09

FRANCE/THE NETHERLANDS. Air France-KLM posted a -8.1% fall in passengers for May compared with the same month in 2008.

The airline said that the month was impacted by unfavourable calendar effects in France (three public holidays compared with only two in May 2008). As a result, the decline in traffic exceeded the reduction in capacity (-5.7%). The group carried 6.1 million passengers (-7.8%).

On the Americas network traffic declined -9.8% year-on-year, while Asian route traffic declined sharply by -11.1%. The Caribbean and Indian Ocean network posted a reductions in traffic of -6.5% while the European network saw passenger traffic decline by -7.4%.

Conversely traffic on the Africa and Middle East network rose by +0.3%.
