Stellar performance: Abu Dhabi International T1 posted sharp growth at +22% in the half

UAE. Passenger traffic at Abu Dhabi International Airport climbed by +6.6% year-on-year in the first half of 2016, to 11.8 million.

The number of people passing through Terminal 1 saw the largest increase, up by +22% on the same period in 2015.

In June, traffic rose marginally (+0.7%) to 1.86 million. Mumbai was the leading destination in the month, with volumes surging by +26% to 70,312. Etihad Airways, the UAE’s national carrier, added an A380 service to the Indian city in May.

Among other key destinations, traffic to and from Doha and Jeddah each grew by +12% in June.

Abu Dhabi Airports Acting CEO Abdul Majeed Al Khoori said: “January and March were the busiest periods for Abu Dhabi International Airport in the first half of the year, with passenger traffic crossing two million in both of these months.

“We are encouraged by the figures from the first six months of 2016, which demonstrate continued growth year-on-year. Consistent increases in passenger traffic are to be expected given Abu Dhabi’s status as an international hub for commerce and tourism, as well as being a bustling transit point.”
