Aberdeen International announces retail opportunities as part of terminal transformation

UK. Aberdeen International Airport is seeking retailers to operate a range of new concessions as part of a terminal transformation project.

The concessions will encompass fashion/sportswear, jewellery and gifting/souvenirs stores in the airport’s departure lounge, in a 276sq m space.

Retailers must register their interest by the end of the first quarter of 2017, and stores will be available for fit out by the end of the first quarter of 2018.

Phase one of the three-year transformation project is nearing completion according to airport owner AGS Airports, and consists of the creation of a new domestic and international arrivals area, a dedicated British Airways lounge and a multi-user business lounge.

Phase two is due to commence in summer 2017 and will see the airport’s central search area and a section of its departure lounge completely reconfigured, creating space for up to four new retail units.

“Aberdeen International Airport is currently undergoing a number of extremely exciting changes, with its first comprehensive terminal upgrade since the 1970s well underway,” commented AGS Airports Group Commercial Director Francois Bourienne.

“The project will deliver a 50% increase in the size of the existing terminal, giving us the opportunity to increase Aberdeen’s existing retail offering to include several new stores in prime locations within the departure lounge.

“These stores will be very welcome additions for our passengers. We are confident the units will provide retailers with a unique, desirable space in which they can deliver a leading edge store to the millions of holidaymakers and business passengers travelling through Aberdeen every year.”

Over 3.1 million passengers travelled through Aberdeen International in 2016, the majority of which were aged between 25 and 44 and belonged to the ABC1 socio-economic group. Upper-level professionals in managerial positions with an interest in high-end products and services are the airport’s most frequent passengers, AGS Airports said.

A number of new routes will launch in 2017, adding some 150,000 passengers per year at the airport.
